Trackhawk Redeye Horsepower - FCA's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team pioneered the company's first turbocharged engine: the Hellcat. For 2015, the team released the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger models powered by this 6.2-liter V8 engine. Since then, SRT has put a Hellcat engine in nearly every powertrain in FCA's American lineup. This engine powers Ram's all-terrain racing truck - the Ram 1500 TRX. For the 2021 model year, SRT even offered a Hellcat-powered Durango. But one of the most unique Hellcat vehicles is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Incredibly, this all-wheel-drive SUV is faster than the latest Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody in almost every metric tested.
As the initial hype surrounding the 2015 debut of the Charger and Challenger Hellcat died down, MOPAR fans wondered what SRT's next project would be. Then in April 2017, SRT announced a Hellcat-powered SUV: the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. With 707 horsepower, it was destined to become the most powerful SUV Chrysler had ever produced.
Trackhawk Redeye Horsepower
First, SRT took on the 5,448-pound Jeep Grand Cherokee. The team then installed the legendary Hellcat supercharged V8. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The resulting SUV can carry five passengers in any conditions: from dirt roads to the racetrack.

Some critics expected the new Jeep Trackhawk to be a bit of a joke. But then MotorTrend got its first test vehicle and took the Trackhawk to the track. Its times blew the doors off almost everything on the road, including the supposed top SRTs: the Charger Hellcat Redeye and most Dodge SRT Challengers.
MotorTrend performs controlled acceleration tests with every vehicle it reviews. On windy days, the publication even runs its tests in two directions and averages the results. Jeep originally said the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk would hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. MotorTrend found it to be even faster.
When MotorTrend tested the Trackhawk, its reporters found the SUV's best 0-60 time to be 3.3 seconds. That time was at least 0.4 seconds faster than any other Hellcat product the team had ever tested. The only SUV to hit 60 mph during MotorTrend's tests was the Tesla Model X.
In the same run, the Trackhawk ran the 1/4 mile in 11.7 seconds, crossing the finish line at 116.2 mph. Finally, the Hellcat-powered SUV beat MotorTrend's top eight in just 24.7 seconds.
Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Belongs In Sport Sedan Pantheon
Even though the Trackhawk sends 70% of its 707 horsepower to the rear wheels, its AWD is clearly the Hellcat's main asset.
Even though Dodge is killing off the Charger Hellcat, this legendary muscle car isn't going quietly. One of the latest evolutions of this beast will be the 2021 SRT Hellcat Redeye Charger. Its engine is cranked up to 797 horsepower. In addition, every 2021 Redeye Charger comes with a factory SRT widebody body kit. This increases the tires from 9-inch wide to 11-inch units.
Despite the increased contact pads and big power, MotorTrend found that the 2021 Hellcat Redeye Charger took 4.0 seconds to reach 60 mph. The world's most powerful production sedan covered the 1/4 mile in 11.9 seconds at 126.6 MPH. Shouldn't it be a Charger Hellcat Redeye?

The Best 2022 2023 Jeep Trackhawk Upgrades
Unlike the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, V8 Chargers only offer RWD. That means each rear wheel has to put 398 horsepower to the pavement. Stepping on the gas even while driving at 70 MPH will cause the tires to come loose. Until the Charger Hellcat Redeye leaves the speed limits far behind, there's no way it will use all of its power.
At higher speeds, the charger finally engages. MotorTrend writer Duncan Brady explained, "The Charger Hellcat Redeye feels like it pulls harder at 90 mph than most sports cars at 40 mph."
If you measure the 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile times, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is faster than the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye – on paper. But speed demons interested in rocketing into the triple digits might want to take another look at the Charger. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is without a doubt one of the most outrageous and fastest cars in production today. However, a recent upgrade to the Hemi Hellcat's supercharged powertrain could mean that if Jeep decides to follow suit, the Trackhawk could be one of the wildest cars in the world and the fastest SUV ever made – period.
What exactly am i talking about? Jeep is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), so the engine under the Trackhawk's hood is essentially the same block found in the mighty Dodge Hellcat Challenger and Charger. A few weeks ago, Dodge announced a new version of its 707-horsepower muscle car, the Hellcat Redeye, which took things up a notch by installing the engine from the Dodge Demon into the widebody Challenger Hellcat. As a result, the Redeye boasts a staggering 797bhp – just 43 less than the Demon.

Can FCA put together a good enough business plan to do the same with the Jeep Trackhawk? Well, if they can get the shelves to approve a 707bhp SUV, what's another 90 ponies? I reached out to Jeep for comment, but received the following:
The Lamborghini Urus is technically the fastest SUV in the world right now thanks to its top speed of 186 mph compared to the Trackhawk's 180, with both giants splitting zero-60 in 3.5 seconds. However, previous experience behind the wheel of the Trackhawk yielded a 3.4-second 0-60 run in heavy winter and with worn tires, but that's beside the point.
Could Jeep really put a Demon engine in a Grand Cherokee body? It probably could, but changes to the ECU and other minor components could easily increase the Trackhawk's performance without actually replacing the formidable 6.2-liter engine.

In short, if Jeep follows in the footsteps of its crazy siblings, the 797-horsepower Trackhawk "Redeye" can easily and officially claim the title of the world's fastest SUV. Only one question remains: what will they call it? Our spy photographer took some photos of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk prototype with a more aggressive hood. Do you think what we think? Yes, it looks like a more powerful version of this already extremely powerful SUV is in the works.
We suspect it could be the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Redeye, which means it will use the same 797bhp version. from the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 found in the most powerful versions of the Challenger and Charger Hellcat models. Compared to the current version of this engine with a power of 707 hp. on the Trackhawk, this higher-output engine adds 90 horsepower and about 50 more lb-ft of torque to the total.
The hood scoop is the only obvious indication that this prototype has anything special, but it's possible that Jeep will also tweak the suspension or brakes slightly to handle the extra burp. And if it inherits the Redeye name, it will get a different badge and such to differentiate it from the normal Trackhawk. We'd also expect a price jump from the Trackhawk's current starting price of $88,395.
This special model will likely serve as a farewell to the current-generation Grand Cherokee, as the next-generation SUV is set to arrive for the 2021 model year. Expect more information on the facelifted Trackhawk sometime in the coming months.
